I'm new to the Atlanta area and am interested in finding a few guys to play with and maybe start a band. I play guitar and synth as well, but I would like to find someone to play guitar so I don't always need to play. Drummer. Bassist. I don't expect for anyone to be at the top of their game by any means, I know I'm not =0 But, it would be cool for the guitarist to be versatile and know how to use some out there tunings. Drummer to be really tight and have a nice sounding ride haha. And for the bass player to be able to not only hold the rhythm, but also be capable of doing some cool background fills. If I come off as wanting too much, don't hesitate to reply anyway. These are just idealistic. I listen to a variety of music; bands such as Metric, The Sounds, Ladyhawke, Third Eye Blind, U2, No Doubt, Ultra Orange et Emmanuelle, Blondie, etc etc. I primarily get around (okay, almost exclusively) via the metro, so it's a huge advantage if I can find some people here in Atlanta or close enough.
Anyway... I wanted to make an attempt at posting something with a lot of information because I really would like to find some people to play with ! Age isn't a huge factor, but I would think 17 or 18 to mid twenties would be good. Not necessarily wanting to target a certain age crowd; just don't want one of these little guys that are thirteen replying.

MODES FOR THE MODERN GUITAR PLAYER
This method allows you to play the modes by simply using ONLY ONE finger pattern that you probably already know. the more i read and study your little method thingy the more it becomes obvious to me. it's almost embarrassing that you can play for x amount of years and overlook little stuff like that. especially when you’re [already] using that [scale] box all the time. but oh well, now i know. It's funny, you play for years and you tend to over look some of the simple things that tie it all together. Thats what your method did for me, just remembering where the root notes are and sliding the modes up or down is a simple thing but you forget that when your thinking about other things going on in the song.

Thank you very much Dan! I've been playing for 40 years pretty much in the rock and roll and blues vein. I’ve always wanted to learn the modes, but frankly my playing was at least to me, decent enough to have been in a few relatively "successful" local bar bands, as a lead guitarist, but I've always known that something was lacking, and knowing modes was one of them. I 'm 52 years old, and my playing has become stagnant. When I saw your posting on Craigslist I was intrigued. I have a Boss looper and I've started to do what was suggested in your tutorial, by just playing these patterns over an A minor, and a couple of other keys, and yes, it absolutely does work. As I'm self taught, I’ve never learned proper theory, and this shortcut will help immensely. Thanks again for the extra help. I'll study this, as time permits. I just needed a little clarification in order to make sure that I was heading in the right direction. Your method is so simple, that I thought I had to be missing something. Peace, Bob
