Bilingual(English/Spanish) paralegal/legal assistant will be working at a boutique law firm focused on criminal and immigration law.
Paralegal/legal assistant will work with Attorney, performing a variety of legal duties pertaining to existing and new criminal and immigration cases. Paralegal/legal assistant work will include but not limited to gathering and completing immigration applications and preparing other legal documentation in preparation for court. Paralegal/legal assistant will also assist with scheduling new client appointments, preparing legal correspondence, docketing cases and maintaining court dockets and diaries and providing information and direction to others.

Job Duties:
Logs and dockets upcoming court dates and hearing dates in google calendar and advises attorney of upcoming court dates for both criminal and immigration cases to ensure no scheduling conflicts and to inform attorney of court imposed deadlines.
Work with attorney in gathering information and inputting information in 42A, 42B, I-130, I-485, I-864, I-765, I-918, I-192, I-130, I-821 and I-821D and other immigration applications as appropriate;
Translate legal documents/birth certificates and other documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English for attorney;
Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls in both Spanish and English; responds to inquires on a variety of matters such as the status of pending cases, upcoming court dates.
Assist legal secretary/receptionist with scheduling and arranging meetings;
Operates keyboard equipment such as personal computer to docket cases, process information, records notices of hearings and upcoming court dates, correspondence, reports and other data;
Operates keyboard equipment to produce legal documents such as entry of appearances, discovery requests, court waivers, notice to appear for immigration court (G-28, E-28);
Proofreads and corrects prepared materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, syntax and content;
Inputs, retrieves, updates and deletes information using computerized databases.
Composes routine letters and memoranda
Reviews legal documents to ensure they are in proper format and contain all necessary portions or related documents for court acceptance; files legal documents with proper courts.
Prepares and assembles materials, documents and exhibits for meetings, court appearances and hearings.
Determines need for supplies
Operates standard office equipment such as calculators, copy machines and facsimile machines, etc.
Performs related work as assigned.
Research and prepare memorandums on legal issues that arise in various cases attorney handle on an as need basis.
NOTE: Pay is consummate with experience
